Our 2nd grader has started learning multiplication tables at school a couple weeks ago. Multiplication tables here go up to 10x10, not 12x12 as they did where I grew up. Pity that children here are denied the joys of the 11 times table, and they probably have trouble figuring out amounts that involve dozens. Although I haven’t seen dozen used very much here except for ordering churos, and more than one dozen churos is more than enough to give anyone indigestion. The other interesting thing is that they have to “sing” the series in front of the class, in a technique reminiscent of the “singing” of the Spanish Christmas Lottery.
