Catalan Supreme Court allows car dealers to perform ITV inspections

Once your car is more than four years old, you need to get it inspected at a privately run, but government certified facility called “ITV”. Recently, Oriol Pujol, the son of the ex-Catalan president, was indicted in part for taking for rewarding his buddies by giving out ITV monopolies.

Having just indicted Oriol Pujol, the Catalan Supreme Court ruled in favor of a coalition of car dealers who wanted to also be able to perform these kind of inspections. The governments claimed that they were protecting consumers from getting ripped off by their car dealers for unnecessary repairs.

I wonder how enthusiastic the government will be in enforcing ITV inspections now that it’s not going to be a cash cow for their buddies anymore.
