Where our landlord tries to trick us into not paying rent

The game of chess continues… I was looking at our bank statement and noticed that our landlord hadn’t charged the correct amount of rent this month. In Spain, it is the tenants responsibility to get the money to the landlord, even if the landlord refuses to take the money.

So our first move was to send a giro postal (postal money order) last week for the remaining amount of rent, which if rejected, we can take to the courthouse in Rubi and set up a “consignment” account to deposit the rent.

This way, the landlord cannot use the new “express” eviction process for non-payment of rent, but instead the landlord needs to use the regular courthouse route, which takes a long time (a year to a year and a half in Rubi).
